As business owners, we know there’s more to philanthropy than just helping others – although that is our primary motive. Providing services to non-profits is a great way to build your business and promote employee morale and loyalty.
What can you do to give back? Donating products is easy when you are a retail operation but what if you are a service provider or simply don’t have inventory to give away?
- Consider donating your services to a non-profit or educational organization. Many organizations are in desperate need of highly trained, specialized vendors. Your services as a bookkeeper, attorney, IT consultant or marketing specialist can be invaluable to a smaller non-profit.
- If pro-bono services aren’t possible, consider lowering your prices for non-profits. You don’t have to give away everything for free and many organizations are willing to pay a percentage of your regular fees.
- Help someone else build a successful business. Businesses don’t succeed in a vacuum. There are always people around us who provide advice, feedback and encouragement. We benefit from those who have gone before us to make their business dream a reality. Passing kindness and expertise on to someone just starting out pays dividends. A thriving community of successful businesses isn’t just a boon for each business owner, but for the community at large.
Sharing generously is our way of repaying those who have helped us along the way, whether it’s making an introduction, providing feedback, or donating goods and services. Our community is enriched when we come together.
