Draper Studios
California photographer Aaron Draper needed a fresher, more technologically contemporary website look. His website at the time was an all-Flash interface designed several years before, leading to a new challenge for his business as preferred Internet browsing technology changed among his core demographic market.
Aaron's business primarily catered to wedding photography and high school senior photography, with a lucrative sideline in family and maternity photo shoots. These clients and prospects - young, technologically sophisticated - had become members of the "iPhone generation", shifting the bulk of their Internet browsing time away from the traditional PC-based web browser and to mobile devices (such as iPhones, Droids and Palm Pre's) that did not support Adobe Flash. These were people increasingly on the move, accustomed to consuming and sharing online content from the palm of their hand. Recognizing that he needed to showcase his work in a mobile-friendly format, Aaron approached us to develop a simple website interface that could showcase his best work using a control mechanism that would work well on mobile displays.
Rather than attempting to recreate his main website, Load Bearing Creative instead recommended building a series of smaller websites targeted to specific market segments, focusing specifically on smartphone users. Aaron was very clear on his design needs: a clean, uncluttered interface, to keep the eye trained on his work. At the center of each satellite website (for weddings, high school seniors and family/maternity segments) would be a Javascript-based image gallery to be controlled via touchscreen navigation. Thus, a website visitor would be able to enjoy Aaron's photography on an iPhone (which at present writing has no Flash support), as well as easily show it to others on a mobile basis.
